How to Develop a Practice Routine and Schedule Pt 2

This is Part II of my multi part approach to developing a good exercise routine to improve my dance skills. A part of developing a good routine is measuring whether or not your routine works! So before you start going all out with your routine you want to measure and take pictures of yourself so you can measure your progress and the effectiveness of the routine.

Measure and Take Images of Yourself

Here’s an example of some of the measurements and images I took to save measure my progress later. Unfortunately, due to my busy work schedule, I am splitting up my measurements across a week. I plan to add onto it as I go along, and I think as an adult that’s the type of workaround or trade offs I make to continue improving on my dance.

Measurement

5/16/10

Weight

84.5 lbs

Waist

Vertical Jump Right

10.5 inches

Vertical Jump Left

10 inches(9.5, 10.5)

How to Measure Your Vertical Jump?

This is a simple way to measure your vertical jump height.

  • Set up a velcro ruler on the wall
  • Stand next to the wall and reach up with your hand to tape one tab on the velcro
  • Jump to tape a second tab
  • Calculate the displacement or difference between the first and second tabs
  • Note: You can also do this by marking the wall with chalk instead of using the velcro ruler. Then use a ruler afterwards to calculate the difference between the first and second tabs

Here are videos of me measuring my vertical jump:

Drafting My Routine

Now it’s finally time to draft my routine! There’s a few things I think about as I put this together

  • Order of exercise, sets, and # of reps, because I don’t want to tire myself out

Weekly Schedule 5_09_2010 – My ideal weekly dance schedule. Most likely this will need to be modified with a lighter load based on my work schedule

StrengthJumpingTumbling Training 5_10_2010 - My training regiment for jumping, arm, and ab strengthening

Strength Training 5_16_2010 - My training regiment for on legs, abs, and arms strengthening

Foot Strength A 5_09_2010 – A short module exercise routine for my feet

Flexibility Draft A1 5_09_2010 - My training routine for flexibility with some ab work and misc stuff included

Ballet Technique A 5_09_2010 - My routine for practicing ballet jumps

Abs A 5_09_2010 – My abs training regiment

For the next few weeks, I am going to take them for a draft run and edit edit edit! I’ll report back when I’m done!

Also of note… I’ve started a Personal Glossary section and added videos of me doing P90X Ab Ripper X routine into the Drills section.
